Trade Review: Urban and Donkey

Urban receives:
SP Matt Cain SF
SP Brandon McCarthy ARI

Donkey receives
SP Jered Weaver LAA
SP Jeff Locke PIT

Didn’t understand this one from Dan. At the beginning of the year this would make sense, as Cain was looked at as a valuable long term keeper with great rates and consistent production while Weaver was injured early. But Cain is not having a good season. He’s been better as of late, particularly his last two starts, but still his shakiness is not enough to give up Weaver, who has been great, straight up – nevermind giving up the surprising Jeff Locke. Weaver is 78/2.90/1.12/10 in 15 starts while Locke is 94/2.36/1.22/12. Locke is clearly not this good and is likely to regress, but will he be as bad as McCarthy (39/5.00/1.43/4)? I highly doubt it. If Dan was getting back a pick, I could see this making some sense, but still the talent differential is substantial here and Chris clearly got the better of this trade.
