Trade Review - Ring of Fire and One Nut

Ring of Fire receives:

Brandon League, 18th rounder

Moose Is Loose receives:

Jon Rauch, 9th rounder

Dagan gave up an awful lot here for a closer period, nevermind one on a bad team. He’s definitely an improvement over Rauch, but I think a four-round upgrade would more than suffice – especially considering the number of closers that are available. Nine rounds is a lot and, in my opinion, more than the market called for.

Meanwhile, Brian made out well, but is going to have to work hard over the next three days to get full value out of his roster. Keepers can be traded for in the offseason, however the value of his non-keepers disappears after the trading deadline.

  1. Adam, I think your draft round numbers are off. I gave up a 15th round pick (or 9th round after keepers). I got back a 24th rounder (18th and last round after keepers). I think you might have subtracted the 6 keeper rounds twice.

The 15th round last year was hit or miss: draft Ian Kennedy = good, draft Soriano = bad, draft Hanrahan = good, draft Encarnacion = you are a total moron. The last round is lottery ticket obviously.

I agree I paid a little too much. My reasoning was that I'm fighting for a playoff spot and needed a closer. I had 2 similar upgrades for closers out to other people at the time: 1 hadn't gotten a response for 2 days and the other was rejected without counter. I got tired of waiting.
