- So far so good for the Angry Pirates. Kyle starts the season with three straight sub-5.0 ranks and is tops in pitching and hitting. He's also sitting atop the standings. Can't get much better than that.
- Likewise, the Donkey Punchers are close behind with an equally balance team, ending week 3 second in hitting and second in pitching. And while Kyle is a full point ahead of him, that gap may close quick with the recent Gibby trade. Beltre may be old, Pedy may be fragile, Stras may be not as good, and Robertson may just be a closer, but that's a lot of track record to add to a team in exchange for a player who was only producing OK. Chris S is in it to win it.
- Speaking of, feel free to check over the scraps of Gibby's team for any remaining meat. He's already looking to next year -- by far the earliest sell date on record. That said, don't count him out. Gibby started selling early his first year in the league and still made the playoffs.
- We're three weeks in and its pretty clear the devaluing of closers has gone as expected. Of the 9 pitchers with 7 or more S+H, three are middle relievers (Walden, Johnson, Hughes), two were drafted as middle relievers (Familia, Soria), one was a FA pickup (Grilli), and then there's Miller, Rostenthal, and Street. No signs of Chapman, Holland, or Kimbrel anywhere. I like this development.
