This is probably the earliest trade we've ever had in a season, but it certainly falls quite short of a blockbuster. Its actually more like a deadline deal. So, I saw the Tigers signed Valverde and I had Coke. Its plainly obvious the Tigers don't want Coke to be the closer but they don't seem to want anyone else either. The signing seemed to indicate to me that Valverde will be up sooner rather than later, or not at all. Still, I don't think Coke is the answer. I went to pick up Valverde after I saw he was signed and was reportedly in good shape, but I couldn't drop Coke because the Tigers were actively playing a game. I saw no on had picked him up when I went to bed, then got up to take a dump at like 4 am and saw Kyle grabbed him. Anyhow, not willing to go overboard, I offered him Coke for Valverde given that both situations are uncertain. He countered with a late two-round upgrade, which was fine. I don't lose a lot if he gets dumped and Benoit is anointed, and I potentially get a 35-save closer. Kyle gets a pick upgrade for a guy he grabbed off waivers a couple days ago who isn't in the majors. Exciting it is not, but its something.
