Week 18 Real Rankings
Pretty epic week in a few respects - 12 trades in 14 days is pretty awesome. I really enjoy the open trading period. It is always interesting and you can gradually see top teams get more nervous as their chief competition gets better, then the trades start to escalate in scale and cost. There were some pretty crazy prices out there and that's just judging from the conversations I had. It was likely made all the more compelling by the eased restrictions. All told, three first rounders were traded which is the first time I can remember that happening. Not surprising, it was the three big buyers in Jason, Kyle, and me who spent it mostly on frontline pitching with Price, MadBum, and Hamels leading the headlines. Lots of teams greatly improved their draft status for next year while other teams like the Chris twins decided to sit tight with what they got. Anyway, kudos to everyone involved as it continues to be a great tradition of excitement.
Adding to the epicness was three teams posting shutouts, including the two teams vying for the top spot currently, along with the Munchkins. The sad thing for Jason is he lost ground even though he went 8-2 and was tops in the real rankings. On the other end, Kyle got pretty lucky pitching a shutout with a 5.9.
I will be keeping a close watch on rosters going forward. I don't care if you're out of it, you must update your lineups. If it becomes an ongoing problem, there will be fines or worse. I take this seriously as a lot of people invest a lot of energy into this game and the integrity of the standings lies in your willingness to take a moment out of your daily dump to hit the "swap inactive players" button.
And I've got more payment but still plenty of people that owe. Please don't make me chase after you after the season ends. Thanks Check here. http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/3479/finances

Week 17 Real Rankings
NOTES
- This week has not disappointed on the trade front, with ten trades agreed upon since last Sunday. It’s always interesting to see how teams view their chances by how they react at the deadline. The most interesting is to see Anal selling a major part and a few solid contributors for picks and relief pitchers. The bounty received for MadBum was too good to pass up surely, but Andrew is sitting in one of the final playoff spots, so this doesn’t make that effort easier. Perhaps he’s looking to punt QS and Ks with the hopes that rates and S+H will take him to the promise land. Either way, one of the more unexpected reactions.
- Outside of Andrew, Dave, Pierce, Dan and of course Gibby are all selling and have dealt off some major pieces. Lars appears to be MIA at the moment while Moose’s trades make it appear he’s not going down without a fight and will see where the playoffs take him.
- This week was a key head-to-head match for the league’s two heavy hitters, with my Revenge going against Kyle’s Pirates. A buttload of double starts and a resurgent offensive output ended in a big 8-2 win, bringing that 10 game lead down to 4 games. If it went the other way, it might’ve wrapped up Kyle’s first regular season championship, but alas, it looks like it may be a fight to the finish.
- In that realm, after several weeks below the Pirates, my Revenge leaped up to second place in the RR for the season. With that in mind, all bets are off as teams improve and worsen their 2015 rosters. It’s like having a new team.
-
- As a general observation, once again the standings and the RR are becoming consistent in terms of overall rank, with Dave’s team the only real injustice at 8th in RR and 11th in Actual, but it’s a relatively minor injustice and may correct further with his recent fire sale.
- Lame duck MET upset the 5th place Munchkins to stay alive in the race. With no incentive to play for next year and an appreciation that selling out for this season completely screws his eventual replacement (which is much appreciated), it looks like Russ will at least stay with what he’s got and try to make some playoff magic.
- Big matchup this week is another tough one for Kyle as he faces the Punchers with his retooled roster, while Dagan (6th) vs. Jason (4th) may be a most entertaining BATTLE OF CHAMPIONS.
- People who still owe dues: Jason, Dave, Shomphe, Shannon ($115), Brian, Dan, Lars ($130), and Pierce.
- Keep the trades coming. One thing I ask everyone to keep in mind is that the price ranges very greatly and fluctuate almost daily as precedent is set. And underwhelming proposal is not an attack on your fantasy acumen, it's simply an acknowledgement that prices are all over the place and assesments of players vary widely. Call them a douche and send a counter. No way to reach a deal unless there's some back and forth.

Trade Reviews
Moose receives:
Ian Kinsler Det – 2B
Evan Gattis Hou – C, OF
Round 21
Urban receives:
Francisco Cervelli Pit – C, 1B
Chris Colabello Tor – 1B, OF
Round 10
It’s always hard to choose a winner with deadline deals since they
typically benefit both teams pretty evenly. That said, I’m not a big fan of
either Kinsler or Gattis, so getting a restricted pick for those guys (11
rounds total upgrade) is pretty damn good for Dan. Neither are keepers in my
mind. Kinsler’s power and speed have fallen gradually as he’s aged. He’s still
a nice source of runs and decent OBPs, but nothing like the 20/40 days – more
like 10/15. So, while he is a safe producer for the near future, he’s not very
compelling long term. Gattis meanwhile does two things well – hit HRs and drive
in guys. This is helpful, particularly from the C position. However, Brian’s
roster has more work that could be done and there was still some meat left on
Dan’s roster to nip at. Meanwhile, Dan continues to do a nice job building an
impressive draft board for next season.
----------------------------------------------------
Keepin receives:
Corey Dickerson Col - OF DL
Luke Gregerson Hou - P
Lucas Giolito Was - P NA
One Nut receives:
Jacoby Ellsbury NYY - OF
Craig Kimbrel SD - P
Not sure how Jason got out of this one without giving up a pick, but I’m
sure he did a nice sell job on CDick as a better long-term piece than Jacoby.
I’m skeptical though. CDick’s 162 game average for his career (of only 776 abs)
is 81/23/74/7/.349 – nothing special. Meanwhile, he has no pedigree of which to
speak and an injury history that is not helping his owners. I’m sure he’s a
keeper next year, but not sure he’s better than Jacoby, who is still only 31,
and he’s coming off a 71/16/70/39/.328 season.
With his current rate of production over 600 abs, he’s have a line of
104/10/55/35/.348, which just says to me that he’s still producing at the same
level when he’s healthy. He’s healthy and on a contender, so it’s a major boon
for Jason. Kimbrel is great, but we have effectively devalued the RP position,
so while his name is big, his contribution should be just middle of the road –
especially considering San Diego’s lack of winning this year. Not sure if
Giolito was presented as someone of value, but he’s not. Great prospect sure,
but he’s not coming up with only 10 innings logged above A ball and Roark and
Ross already ahead of him. He would be a tremendously foolish keeper, so yeah,
not much there. The only thing I can say for Pierce here is CDick has shown
promise at times and if he can start a string of 600 abs season starting with
his age 27 season next year, he is likely to outproduce Ellsbury over the next
three years. But that’s a big IF and the fact that he doesn’t have more than
800 abs before he turns 27 should make you skeptical. Overall, would’ve been
fine with this trade with 8 rounds or so going back to Pierce.
----------------------------------------------------
One Nut receives:
Cameron Maybin Atl - OF
Round 19
Cowhide receives:
Mike Moustakas KC - 3B
Round 17 (traded from Moose is Loose!)
One of those trades that if you looked at it at the beginning of the
season, you would’ve said “Wait, why bother?” Well, as much a Moose was a beast
in the first half, Maybin was also pretty damn impressive. I mean, if you
consider he could be a leadoff hitter and get 700 abs (about double his current
output), you’d have something like 90/15/90/35/.330. That’s what everyone
expected of him when he was a top 3 overall prospect in the Tigers
organization. His 162 game average for his career is 78/10/49/27/.312, so it’s
not really something to count on, but the bottom line is, at age 28, we’re
seeing some of the promise. Meanwhile, Moose got hurt and started to suck, so
now he’s sitting on the wire waiting for a surge of production. All that said,
Maybin has come back to life a bit the past month and for some reason Jason
felt the need to add a sixth player that is only eligible at OF. Not really
sure he was worth the picks, but then again, it wasn’t much, so let’s just move
along..
----------------------------------------------------
Montezuma's receives:
Melky Cabrera CWS - OF
Danny Salazar Cle - P
Round 17
Cowhide receives:
Brandon Moss StL - 1B,OF
Joe Ross Was - P
Round 8
Cut away some of the interesting peripheral compensation here and you
get a solid swap of Danny Salazar for nine rounds, to the second round to be
exact. He’s been the eighth best starter in fantasy over the past 30 days with
35 ks in 35 ip and a 1.53/0.76 and 5 QS. The numbers just build on what has
been a great season for the young flame thrower 143K in 125 ip/3.38 era/1.07
whip/12 QS. Not bad for someone Dave grabbed off the wire because he was sent
to the minors before the season. He may have not taken him to the promise land,
but Dave is certainly capitalizing on his value. Meanwhile, he gives me another
high-end/slightly risky starter who can dominate any opponent. An 8th
rounder is a big piece to give away, but there was also a defensive mindset
here as well. Looking at the other pieces, the Melk Man has been a massive
disappointment this year, but it looks like he’s mixed himself a nice HGH
cocktail in the last month as he’s the 17th best overall player
since early July. He replaces Moss, who has had his moments but overall has
struggled in everything but the power department, likely due to his balky hip
issues. The sub-.300 OBP just was not what I had hoped for given his on base
skills. Dave may have also received a great piece that he can deal later as Joe
Ross has recently been named a permanent member of the rotation after an
impressive fist few showings in the bigs. My concern was that he’d be sent down
or capped eventually, but looks like I maybe should have waited longer. Though
he may help my team in a big way, an 8th rounder is a lot to give up
for one not-so-significant-now upgrade to a starter and a maybe-good OF. If
Salazar keeps it up and ends the year as a consensus keeper, then I likely won
this one. But he’s not there yet and Dave’s rebuilding efforts are off to a
nice start.
----------------------------------------------------
Angry receives:
Álex Rodríguez NYY - 3B
David Price Tor - P
Jimmy Nelson Mil - P
Round 18
Round 20
Round 21
Cowhide receives:
Danny Duffy KC - P
Trevor Plouffe Min - 1B,3B
Clay Buchholz Bos - P DL
Round 7
Round 11
Round 13
Whoa boy… that’s the way to get an open trading period started. Man oh
man. That’s 28 rounds, including a first rounder! May be even more epic than
Jason’s 35-round deal last year because of the first rounder. The problem is, I
don’t think Kyle got the best return because only one of the guys he got is a
keeper. You could make a case for ARod, but I don’t think anyone will be giving
up substantial compensation for a 40-something, artificially inflated,
oft-injured DH. He could get a bunch for Price or keep him, but it’s also an SP
and there’s lot of good players in this tier, so the value is lessened some.
Meanwhile, Nelson has looked fantastic this year and has really grown quite a
bit in his age 26 season, but he’s still just 114/3.57/1.23/11, which just
doesn’t project as a long term piece for anybody. For this year, you have a
stunning 31/0.79/0.97/5 ouput in the last 30 days. If that continues, Kyle may
be riding Jimmy to a championship. You have to be pretty skeptical though
because he’s never had this success before in the bigs and, while a good
prospect, he was never a great one. There’s lots to like, but also a lot to be leery
about, not to mention the Brewers may want to save some of those bullets for
next season (though it doesn’t look like they’ve said they will put a cap on
his innings yet). I just say all that to conclude I think Kyle probably gave up
too much here and perhaps should’ve insisted on a bit more from Dave, who had
other chunks of meat to nibble off his dead roster. David Price could be a game
changer, but as Jason has proven many times, depth is key when going for a
championship and Kyle may have missed an opportunity to get a little deeper.
----------------------------------------------------
Urban receives:
Tony Watson Pit - P
David Phelps Mia - P
Round 12
Montezuma's receives:
Matt Shoemaker LAA - P
Tyson Ross SD - P
Round 23
A little pre-open trading action between Dan and myself. This one was a
few days in the making as we originally started with much larger aspirations, with
big moving parts on either side, but couldn’t find a good middle ground on
which to settle. So we ended up with a pitchers-for-pick swap. Eleven rounds is
a lot to give up for a guy with a 1.39 WHIP, but Ross has been very good in the
past 30 days, posting a 30/2.70/1.20/3 in 30 ip. He profiles similar to Salazar
with the high K upside and recent prowess, but with a history of volatility
that could come back to bite me at precisely the worst time. They both have
keeper potential so there’s possibility of future return on value, depending on
how he closes the season. Shoemaker is an interesting throw-in. While he has
pitched poorly enough overall to be nearly removed from the rotation, he has
been one of the best starters in the leage over the past 30 days with
30/1.05/1.09/3 in 25 ip. His fastball is still flat and liable to be crushed,
but his outputs look similar to last year, when he established himself as out
of nowhere up and comer. If that can continue, he’ll be much more than a
throw-in and will make that 11 rounds I gave up look a lot more appealing. Dan gets a nice return regardless and may be able to deal off Watson as well, as he has been one of the better middle relievers again this year. However, the acquisition of Soria sapped some of his value as he got bumped to the 7th inning, making it less likely for him to get a hold.

Week 16 Real Rankings
The open trading period has started with bang, and by "bang" I mean there's been no sound whatsoever. However, with Dave, Dan, and Pierce joining Gibby among the Maybe Next Years, I imagine we'll start hearing more. The real question is for those in limbo - are you going for it or are you not or are you not sure? There's still two weeks until you need to officially make up your mind, but clearly the teams that start selling early are able to get the most desperate buyers. Basically anyone under .500 on the season needs to look over their roster closely and determine whether its worthwhile to sacrifice next year's picks to pursue glory this year. Kyle has a commanding lead for the regular season title, and my team has been high up there all season, but no team has truly overwhelmed the competition on a regular basis. Jason and the Chrises have equally talented rosters - it's just a matter of who gets hot at the right time.
- Big matchup this week between #1 and #2 in the standings and real rankings, as the Revenge face off against the Pirates. If my team is going to take a run at the top spot, it will need a good week. Both teams are loaded up with double starts, so should be a good one.
- Past four weeks, the top three teams in the RR were Ring 5.4, Revenge 5.6, and Pirates 5.8. Bottom three were Prestige (8.9), Sexual (9.5) and Keeping (9.5).
- As always, a friendly reminder to set your lineup and report and lineup violations you see. It's for the good of the league that you both comply and report. Fines will be levied for repeat offenders.
- Thanks to the three additional people who paid via PayPal yesterday. Everyone else - please pay some time in the next couple weeks (Lars and Shannon, please note the additional fee for the last and next to last place finish last year). Don't hesitate to let me know if you need more time.

Week 15 Real Rankings
The long week took its toll on a few struggling teams,
including my own, and helped others move up. There’s six weeks left, so that’s
60 games to make up the distance between you and first place.
- The open trading period begins Sunday at midnight. All picks are fair game to trade, but you’re limited to trading two picks in round 7-10. There is no limit on the number of picks you can acquire in these rounds. The trade deadline is August 16th.
- So, with that said, who is in and who is out? Has all the meat been picked off the Napalm bones? There seems to be plenty of buyers and not a lot of sellers at the moment, so teams stand to put themselves in great position moving forward if they’re willing to call it a year.
- That said, the distance between last and the playoffs is only 7.5 games, so its anyones game. And we all know you just have to make it to the dance, then its anyone’s game.
- Consistent with years past, the Real Rankings and Actual Standings are coming more into sync as the season goes on. This could not be more noticeable than the emergence of Cowhide Joyride, who rode his way out of the cellar into 12 and is inching forward to a playoff spot – just as the RR say he should.
- The Angries just may be running away with it, as Kyle continues to produce in a well balanced manner while the three major threats behind him are struggling to find consistency.
- Top three over the past four weeks: Cowhide Joyride (5.85), Angry Pirates (6.05), and Donkey (6.15). Meanwhile Napalm (9.25), Keepin (9.1), and Prestige 9.05) are taking up the rear. Bring it out to five weeks and the once resurgent Prestigers are the low man at the totem pole, while Cowhide remains atop
- Only two people have paid so far. Please send checks to 90 Old Route 9, North Berwick, ME 03906. I have a PayPal account, just need to finish setting up. Will let you know when that is ready.

Week 12 and 13 Real Rankings
NOTES:
- After spending most of the season in first in the Real Rankings, the Revenge have fallen all the way to third. The resurgent One Nut and resilient Pirates both overtook me over the course of the past two weeks. There's a pretty big drop to fourth, so the top three are clearly a tier, with the next tier falling in the equally close 4th-6th grouping (6.52-6.60).
- Big props need to go to Andrew for posting the best relative performance in hitting in Real Ranking history with a 1.6 in Week 13. His 45 runs, 10 hr, 39 rbi, 12 steals, and .353 obp were good for 1st, 3rd, 1st, 1st, and 2nd, respectively.
- Keep in Real is sticking to the same time-tested strategy of sticking with the team he drafted, but not working so well for Piercy Poo at the moment.
- Dave's luck hasn't changed much since we last checked in. A first place real ranking in Week 13 and third in Week 12 and all he has to show for it is a 12-8 record over that period. Still time left though.
- Over the last four weeks, the top three in Real Rankings are Angry Pirates (5.1), One Nut (5.5), and Anal (6.2), with Cowhide coming in just behind at 6.3. Three worst are Ring (8.2), Prestige (8.3), and Keepin (8.6).
- The trade market has yet to evolve. Lots of buyers, not much in terms of sellers. Couple more weeks ought to give people more of an idea of where they stand.
